If you’re a gaming enthusiast, you might have been familiar with the concept of idle games (or incremental games).
This type of game allows you to enjoy gradual progress with simple actions throughout the game, such as clicking on the screen.
Among all the evolved titles games out there, Clicker Heroes can be mentioned as a standout example that gained a huge love from the gaming community.
But what exactly sets this game apart and becomes a sensation in the gaming world?
We will help you answer in this article. Read on to find out its origins, gameplay, and standout features!
What is Clicker Heroes?
As its name describes, this game will give you a chance to become a hero with the mission to defeat a lot of scary monsters.
But here’s the interesting part: you don’t have to engage in any complex battle; all you have to do is simply click.
As long as you click on the monsters, they are attacked and gradually wear down their health until they’re defeated.
Clicker Heroes starts simple but becomes more exciting as you progress to the next level and face tougher monsters.
Clicker Heroes involves various levels. To move to the next level, you need to defeat 10 monsters in the current level.
However, things get more interesting starting at level 5, where every fifth level is a boss level. This means you will encounter a boss battle every five levels after level 5.
In these battles, you have to defeat a boss in a given amount of time, so make sure you’re ready.
Gameplay Mechanics
When playing Clicker Heroes, you should grasp the core mechanics of gameplay, which include clicking, accumulating currency, and upgrading heroes.
1. Clicking

2. Accumulating Currency
Once the monster is defeated, it drops gold. Gold is a precious treasure in this game, as you can use it in various ways.
First, you can purchase new heroes to join your team.
Second, you can use gold to upgrade your existing heroes. Depending on your strategy, you should consider carefully between two options to maximize your team to win battles.
3. Upgrading Heroes
As you continue to defeat monsters and collect gold, you can use these resources to upgrade your heroes. Depending on the level you want to upgrade your heroes, the cost will increase correspondingly.

Then, you can use these gained coins to upgrade your heroes and continue on the journey of defeating monsters.

The Origins of Clicker Heroes
Let’s take a look at the developer’s background, how the game first started, and the first impressions it made!
Developer Background
It is important for us to capture the origin of Clicker Heroes, one of the best clicker games over time.
Back in 2014, it was developed by Playsaurus, an American independent game development studio.
Before this game creation, they had released the first game in 2012, which is Cloudstone.
As a result, their experience and background in game development serve as the foundation for Clicker Heroes’s success.
How the Game Started
Clicker Heroes is a simple yet addictive game. It works in the concept of idle game, which was inspired by earlier titles like Cookie Clicker.
The developers at Playsaurus understood clearly how the mechanics work behind making this genre so addictive. So, they took advantage of this and also added their creative aspects and characters to the game, making it more interesting than ever.
As the game evolved, they also added various features, upgrades, and engaging content to keep players entertained.
First Impressions and Initial Feedback
Since its initial release, Clicker Heroes gained positive attention and responses from the community. Players were captivated by the game with the gameplay loop, where they defeated monsters continuously.
Not only players, there were also positive comments from the critics.
Kotaku’s Nathan Grayson said the game is a perfect office space distraction. Also, Eurogamer writer Christian Donlan said the game was his “gaming secret” and is very addictive.
Additionally, other game creators found Clicker Heroes as their source of inspiration to develop their own titles, such as “The Longing”.
Pioneering the Idle RPG Subgenre
Clicker Heroes play an important role in shaping the RPG Subgenre in the gaming industry.
It introduced the idle role-playing concept, where players become their own heroes and start their journey of defeating monsters.
As developers of the game combine the basic click mechanic with RPG elements like heroes, they create a unique and addictive gameplay experience.
This concept became more and more popular as many other titles have brought it into their creations. As a result, players now have a diverse range of idle RPGs to choose from.
The Rise to Popularity
Clicker Heroes has not just become a popular game overnight. There are several factors that lead it to become a viral success.
First, we can not deny the addictive gameplay of the game. Although we start the game with simple clicks to defeat monsters, it keeps us continuing for just “one more” battle over time.

As players start to share their ideas, tips, and strategies on various online platforms, the game has gradually broadened its fan base and then gained virality.

Game Reviews and Testimonials
Here are the professional reviews, user reviews, and overall ratings of Clicker Heroes.
Professional Reviews
Clicker Heroes received both positive and negative feedback from the gaming community.
Obviously, good reviews will lead to more players participating in this game. On the other hand, negative feedback is also a valuable contribution so that the game can improve and continue to develop.
Clicker Heroes styles itself as an idle game in the body of an RPG, but it is really just all of the RPG grind without any of the interesting plot that helps drive you. In the end, the game, if you can call it that, pretty much plays itself. Despite this, it has a surprising amount of depth, though a lot of patience and a great deal of time is needed to uncover it all.
OpenCritic
Clicker hero’s is a free to play game with little to no pay to win mechanics. Rubies can be obtained in game by little fish that pop up and have a chance to drop a ruby. In your first world you will prolly get 40 rubies, 50 is needed for the big buys, it’s different than most free to play games as most of them will never give you the in game currency.
TrueAchievements
Developed by Playsaurus, Clicker Heroes revolves around the simple mechanic of clicking on enemies with the mouse button until they meet their untimely demise. These enemies will drop gold that can then be used to hire a number of adventurers who will do the dirty work of killing enemies for you. And so the premise goes from level to level, remaining true to the original Cookie Clicker game while offering more incentives for players to keep on clickin’.
Indie Game Reviewer
Clicker Heroes is an idle game available on multiple platforms. The game is very simple in nature, you deal damage by clicking or having heroes that deal passive damage. You do enough damage and you kill an enemy, killing a certain amount of enemies advances your zone (or level), leading to progressively harder enemies. Every 5 levels there is a boss. There are a lot of other systems that add complexity, but it all boils down to kill things to get rewards that you invest to deal more damage. It is built to play idly and it is not one of the many pay-to-win type of games. Idle games, by nature, only appeal to certain types of people so this game will be very hit-or-miss based off of that. However, if you like idle games this is certainly one of the better ones out there.

User Reviews
It’s not pay to win… it’s not pay to play… it’s a great game to idle with if you enjoy strategy/rpg (having an interest in math also makes it more interesting for me.) Definitely use an autoclicker–don’t break your mouse. The fun is what ISN’T clicking (upgrading heroes, speccing ancients/outsiders, trying to figure out which hero is a dude or not cuz they all have breasts.) It’s free, has tons of achievements, is well-made and addictive. You can also expert and import save games if you’d like to try other people’s builds.

This is one of my favorite games to play when i’m on a field trip with school or those long drives to family or friends and i was looking at the reviews and i seen someone say something about no rest button but technically there is its transcending to a new world as long as you get to world 300 you can transcend at any time but yea a rest button would be nice if your one of those try hards that transcend every time you get over a million hero souls and for me one million is nothing, the two problems i have is its so hard to get enough gold for the next hero’s I’ve been trying to get e99 gold but it takes so long to get the gold i need i even have 6 auto clickers just from a 2 day ruby thing with my mercs at very high levels and the mercs die to quickly i’ve used at least 100 candy canes to keep them alive but with all that this is one of my favorite games no other games i’ve been so addicted to in a long while

I love this game! Getting high numbers and working with players in a clan in this idle game is super fun! The only reason the game isn’t 5 stars is because sometimes it’s a bit too complex with hero soul spending, relics are useless, and you don’t know what to do at the Dread Knight wall unless you ask other players on discord. Besides that this game is perfect, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
